Problems, Providence, Participation

Apostle Peter in his Second Letter so clearly writes what’s wrong with the world and encourages us with God’s providence and shows how we can partake with God in transforming this world. A study on the Second Letter of Peter. (I use the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible).

Problems of this world:

1. Destructive opinions
2. Deceptive words
3. Depraved lust
4. Despising authority (of God)
5. Defilements of the world (adultery & greed)
6. Deliberate ignorance of the facts of the word of God
(Source: 2 Peter 2nd Chapter; 3:5-8)

Providence of God:

1. Divine power for life & godliness
2. Knowledge of God's glory & goodness
3. God's precious & great promises to escape the corruption of the world
(2 Peter 1:3,4)

Part & Participation of God's people:

So that we may
Become participants of the divine nature (1:4c),
Established in the truth (1:12b),
Herald righteousness (2:5,7),
Not entangled in past sins (2:20,21)
Lead lives of holiness & godliness (3:11b)
Wait for & desire the coming of the day of God (3:12a).

Service Well Pleasing to God

Service Well Pleasing to God (Hebrews 13:1-16)

1. Show hospitality to strangers

2. Remember those who are in prison

3. Keep marriage undefiled

4. Keep your lives free from the love of money

5. Be content with what you have

6. Remember, obey and pray for your leaders

7. Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings

8. Do good and share what you have

"May the God of peace.. make you complete in everything good so that you may do His will... that which is pleasing in His sight". (Heb 13:20,21)

Song of the Son

(God) Speaks to us by Him 
Semblance of God's glory is He
Signature of God's very being 
(He) Sustains all things by His powerful word 

Sits at the right hand of the Majesty 
Superior to angels 
Suffering death He is crowned with glory and honour 
Salvation Pioneer, Sanctifies us 

Served God as a merciful and faithful High Priest 
Shared in humanity 
Sympathises with our weakness 
Sacrifice He became of atonement for the sins of the people 

(The) Source of eternal salvation for all who obey Him 
Sanctifies our conscience from dead works to worship the living God 
Single offering of His body has perfected for all time those who are sanctified 
Shame He disregarded and endured the cross 

Such hostility He endured against Himself 
So that we may not grow weary or lose heart 
Same is He, yesterday and today and forever
(The) Son, He is Jesus Christ!

Leadership: Self or Scripture?

Peter stood up not to push his will and way through. He uses his leadership position to call upon others to elect a person so that the "Scripture" might be fulfilled. (Acts 1:15-26)

Ponder: How is my leadership? Is it driven & motivated by the Scripture and the Spirit or by the self?
