Who Touched Me?

Victimized WomanWhile we live in a world full of crimes committed against women, we see Jesus as One whose life and behaviour with women need to be emulated by all men.

Meditation from Matthew 9:20-22 and Luke 8:40-48

“came from behind and touched the hem of His garment. For she said to herself, “If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well.”” (Matthew 9:20,21)

When women are cringing at the thought of those evil and filthy hands that touch them, here is a woman who wants to touch Jesus.

But Jesus turned around, and when He saw her He said, “Be of good cheer, daughter…” (Matthew 9:22)

When men are using abusive words against woman and girls calling them as “figure”, “item number”, “hot one” and use all cuss words; and fail to see every female as a sister or daughter or mother, we see Jesus saying, “Be of good cheer, daughter”.

“…when He saw her He said, “Be of good cheer, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And the woman was made well from that hour.” (Matthew 9:22)

When men are making women sick, here we see Jesus making a woman well.

“She had spent every penny she had on doctors but not one had been able to help her. She slipped in from behind and touched the edge of Jesus’ robe. At that very moment her haemorrhaging stopped.” (Luke 8:43-45 MSG)

When men are sending healthy women to the doctor due to their cruel deeds, here we see Jesus ending all her medical expenses by healing her.

“Now when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling; and falling down before Him, she declared to Him in the presence of all the people the reason she had touched Him and how she was healed immediately.” (Luke 8:47)

When men are sending women to hiding because of their shameful acts here we see Jesus giving a woman back her public space.

“came from behind” (Luke 8:44)

When we live in a time where men go behind girls/women to  abuse them, here we see a woman coming behind Jesus to be made well by Him.

“she declared to Him in the presence of all the people the reason she had touched Him and how she was healed immediately.” (Luke 8:47)

The aftermath of todays’ gruesome incidents do not make women happy to declare publicly about the heinous acts committed against them, we see this woman declaring in the presence of all what happened to her because of Jesus.

“Go in peace” (Luke 8:48)

When todays’ men rob the peace from the lives of women, we see Jesus sending this woman with the promise of peace.

womanThis woman had “faith” in Jesus that He can heal her. Likewise every girl and woman has “faith” in us men and boys, that we will respect them, help them, will see them as equals, treat them as God’s children and behave with them as sisters, mothers & daughters. Let us live up to that faith a female puts on us. Let us emulate JESUS!

The gruesome and cruel act of the gang rape of a student in Delhi is what burdened me to write this post. Just a few days after her death, as I was meditating this portion of the Scripture is when I got this insight.
