ATO

Meditation from Luke Chapter 7

Wondering what ATO is???!!! It’s Attitude Towards Others! In the 7th chapter of Luke we see the godly attitude of people that teach us wonderful lessons to practice.

1. Humble Centurion – The attitude about his Centurion quite surprise me. Because he ‘highly valued’ his slave (Luke 7:2) and he considered himself as someone who is ‘not worthy’ (7:6)! This attitude is reflected in his actions. He sends people to Jesus to come and heal his slave; such is the care that the Centurion gives to his servant.

Even though he loves the Hebrews and had built a Synagogue for them and he himself is a man of authority he does not want to use all of that to influence Jesus and to make Him come to his place (7:4,5). He sends his friends to Jesus and says that he is not worthy for Jesus to come to his place (7:6).
Do we value others (those who are below us or considered low according to the society)?

2. Compassionate Jesus – Jesus goes out of the way to help the weeping widow whose only son died. Luke 7:13 says, “When the Lord saw her, he had compassion for her…” When He saw her condition, He had compassion. When we see people’s condition are we compassionate or indifferent?
The compassion of Jesus made people to see God’s favour on them!

3. Pretense-less / Plain-dealing John – He has a doubt about Jesus whether He is the Messiah or were they to expect someone else. The way he deals with his doubt is exemplary. He doesn’t go public announcing his doubt rather sends his disciples directly to Jesus to clarify it (Luke 7:18-20).

What a wonderful way to deal with doubts! Most often we go around sharing our doubts about a person, to everyone expect that person; which is not godly. Gossip is not godly! Like John we should take the doubt directly to the person; which will avoid misunderstandings and misinterpretations.

4. Applauding Jesus – John doubts Jesus; yet the way Jesus looks at John and talks about him to the people is extremely amazing! Right after John’s disciples leave, “…Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John… What then did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet…I tell you, among those born of women no one is greater than John…” (Luke 7:24,26,28).
He applauds and speaks so great of the person who doubted him! How often do we react like this about people who doubt us?

5. Accepting & Approving Jesus – To those house of the Pharisee two guests arrive, one is Jesus who is an invited guest and the other is a woman, an uninvited guest. The Pharisee, though does not publicly expresses his contempt for her, he thinks ill of her in his heart (Luke 7:39). We learn through the other gospels and as well from what the Pharisee thinks, that she must have been a prostitute. The Pharisee saw only as a sinner, but Jesus saw in her the heart of repentance and love for God! That’s why Jesus accepted her!
How often we judge people for their past sins and forget to see their present repented heart and life!

Let us resolve to reflect Humility, Compassion & Genuineness and to show true appreciation and acceptance to others!

Serving God

Meditation from Luke 1

Zechariah & Elizabeth and Mary found favour in the sight of God (Luke 1:25,30). The greatest favour that they received is to bring out the one who will prepare the way for the Lord (John) and the One who will prepare the people to enter God’s kingdom (Jesus). In this chapter we can find references to ‘serving God’ which gives us the important elements to truly serve God.

1.      Serving to be a blessing, not for a blessing
Zechariah was serving as priest before God (1:8) and he & his wife were righteous before God and lived blameless according to all the commandments of God (1:6). Though they did to have a child, which in a sense is a deprival of a blessing, that did not stop them from serving God.
Even after receiving John, they rejoiced that he was chosen to serve God (1:76,77).

2.      Serving by submitting to God’s will
Mary surrendered to the will of God – “Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word” (1:38). We cannot truly serve God without submitting to God’s will and by expecting to serve our wish and desire.

3.      Serving with humility and not pride
God’s favour will be on those who serve with humility (1:48) and not with those who are proud (1:51).

4.      Serving in holiness & righteousness
We are rescued by Jesus so that we “might serve him without fear, in holiness and righteousness before him all our days” (1:74,75). We cannot serve God without holiness. He who fears God will fear no circumstance and fear no one, for he will walk in holiness & righteousness.

Let us serve God with humility & in holiness, by surrendering to His will, to be a blessing!

Blessings of Seeking

Meditation from Zephaniah Chapter 2

Pride, Fearless before God & False sense of security will make one desolate and fruitless (2:15).

We need to
Seek the LORD
Seek Righteousness
Seek Humility (2:3).

If we follow the world we will walk in wickedness, if we follow the word we will walk in Righteousness.
Humility is not a gift but it is learnt.

The prophet shows three blessings of Seeking the LORD, Righteousness and Humility.

1. Mindful - God will be mindful of us. People may forget us, but God Himself will be mindful. (2:7)

2. Restore - The LORD will restore every lost spiritual blessing when we repent. He restores us just not to our previous state, but to God's standard. (2:7)

3. Inheritance - The LORD will enable us to receive the inheritances, the heavenly inheritance in Christ. (2:9)

What a great joy when we seek the LORD, Righteousness and Humility; we will enjoy the M.R.I and will become a blessing to others.

Have a blessed day!

Blessings of Humility

Blessings of Humility

Meditation from Zechariah Chapter 9

The LORD's eyes look upon every place and every person. Nothing is hidden from Him. (9:8b) In this chapter the prophet shows the reasons for pride & its consequences.

1. Reasons: Two reasons for pride is mentioned - People are proud because they are wise and because of wealth or possessions. (9:2,3)
The Bible talks about many other reasons of pride.

2. Consequences: According to this chapter, pride leads to - Fear, Sorrow or Anguish & to lose Hope. (9:5)

3. Solution:
This chapter has a messianic prophecy one about the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem on the donkey and about the blood of covenant. (9:9,11)

Through His Birth, death & resurrection and by the blood of covenant, the LORD delivers us from sin. We go to Him & cast our burdens and take upon us His burdens and learn humility from Him, that we may have rest. (Matthew 11:28-30)

4. Blessings: This chapter shows 7 blessings of humility.

1. Peace (9:10)
2. Hope (9:12)
3. Restoration (9:12)
4. Protection (9:15)
5. Deliverance (9:16)
6. Shepherded / Led by God (9:16)
7. Goodness (9:17)

As a culmination of all of this we will shine in the land.

No one can take humility for granted that he or she is humble. Pride and ego is what everyone of us have. Humility is not a gift that we receive in a day. Humility is learnt.

As we grow, the temptation to be proud will increase; whoever continually learns to be humble & practices it will keep shining for the LORD, according to His will & His way.

Today's Intercession:

# Pray for the county of Nepal; which was a Hindu nation & suffered issues of internal conflicts and in recent years became democratic.

# In the recent past anti conversion law was passed to hamper the work of the gospel.

# Pray for the work of GEMS and others in Nepal to not be hampered.

# Pray for the GEMS missionaries, leadership, churches and projects in Nepal.

# Pray for the growth and progress and for all barriers to be removed.

Have a blessed day!
